Halloween may be over, but don't climb back into your coffin to snooze until next fall! We've got some super parties lined up for you, starting with this Saturday's. Asala returns with another spectacular bellydancing performance; we're offering an hour of "open bar," plus some other great drink deals; Vlad, JavieR, and Bound's DJ Panic will spin; Trysting Photography is vending; and there's lots more in store...
ASALA WILL PERFORM
If you were lucky enough to catch her last appearance at Midnight in December 2008, you already know that Asala--whose bellydancing skills include both Egyptian style and Tribal Fusion--puts on one hell of a great show. She has also appeared at local venues such as Piratz Tavern and Taste of Morocco, plus Turkish Festivals on both coasts as a member of the Silk Road Dance Company (www.silkroaddance. com). We're thrilled to have her on board again, and you will be, too!
THE DJ LINEUP
Our request-friendly DJs, of course, will be spinning for most of the evening, both before and after Asala's appearance. This week we've booked:
* Vlad -- A longtime D.C. scene DJ and promoter and a talented graphic designer (www.kallistidesign .com), Vlad always has his finger on the pulse of the best new dance music.
* JavieR -- Once a New England goth scene star, JavieR (http://members. cox.net/hislords hipjavier) is, along with Vlad, a founder of the new monthly party "III," which starts Sunday the 15th (see below for more info).
* Panic -- Also a well-known face to local gothic/industrial/ fetish scene denizens, our guest DJ, Panic, currently spins at Bound (www.myspace. com/clubbound) and Dunkelheit (www.myspace. com/dunkelheitdc ). He also occasionally takes his talents on the road, doing guest appearances in N.Y., etc.
Count on these three to keep you out on the dance floor from 9:00 until we reluctantly pull the plug at 3:00 a.m.!
OPEN BAR, FOOD & DRINK SPECIALS
On the 7th, The Meeting Place is once again offering us an hour of "open bar." From 9:00-10:00 p.m. your domestic beer (American bottled or draft) and "rail drinks" (think generic requests such as "bourbon and ginger" rather than name brand ones) are free! Please do still tip your bartender.
Then from 10:00 until last call at 2:45 a.m., all domestic beer is just $3.00 + tax, and all "rail drinks" sell for only $4.00 + tax. In addition, after 10:00 p.m. Absolut Vodka and Grey Goose cocktails will be just $5.00 + tax.
Hungry from all that dancing? Ask your bartender for a menu. Food's served until 1:30 a.m., and items on the new appetizer list (friend shrimp, nachos, fries, chicken fingers, etc.) are all discounted 20% off the list price.
IN THE VENDORS CORNER
Over in the club's usual vendors area you'll find Trysting Photography (http://www.modelmay hem.com/649321). TP made its vending debut earlier this year at The Meeting Place. A pro photographer with a laid back and friendly manner, Tryst will be happy to set up a sitting with you (rates start as low as $50.00). She'll be showcasing her pics and selling prints of some of her best shots.
Brass Tactics Steampunk Accessories may also be vending, but we have no further details at press time...
NATURALLY THERE'S MORE!
* WIN IN OUR DRAWING -- Upon arrival, fill out one of the drawing slips on our literature table and place it in the nearby cauldron. It's free to enter, of course; and you could go home with a copy of the newest Stephen King short story collection, the novelization of the second book of the "Twilight" saga, a $10.00 coupon good for food and non-alcoholic beverages, or one of two pairs of tickets for the opening night (Sunday, November 15) of III. A monthly event at Club Cobalt near Dupont Circle, it will feature Vlad, JavieR, and guest DJs spinning the best of goth, industrial, EBM, synthpop, '80s new wave, and more!
* ADMISSION DISCOUNTS -- Want to beat all or part of the already low $5.00 cover charge? Okay, then (1) Show up early. Our first 12 guests always enter free. (2) Watch our LJ (www.livejournal. com/community/ dcmidnight) late on Thursday nights and post the first correct answer to our "Question of the Week." You'll get in free as well. (3) Bring your current high school (must be 18) or college (includes staff) ID to show at the cash table. That will save you $2.00. (4) This week only, in honor of Marie Antoinette's b'day (November 2), say "Let them eat cake!" when you pay (from 9:00-10:30 p.m.), and your cover is $4.00 instead of $5.00.
* FREE CAKE -- Speaking of pastry, there'll be free cake served shortly after the witching hour. We have no confirmed b'day celebrants at the moment, but best wishes to Phoebe (Dunkelheit) , Virginia, Shaina, Skinhead Mike, Misha, Kim, Caitlin, and Thom, among others!
Many thanks to everyone--what a turnout!--who showed up for Midnight's 7th annual Halloween Party last Saturday. We hope to see you out again this Saturday for Asala, and on the 14th--when Midnight celebrates its 7th anniversary with a live show by 23 Rainy Days (www.myspace. com/23rainydays) . If you're not at Midnight, you're missing "the" party!
-- Scott & the Midnight crew
