Then on Saturday be sure to check out Midnight..
This week Midnight, brings you a live show by Baltimore synthpop stars Red This Ever, and a release party for their new CD "Selfless"; guest DJ/VJ Umbris, plus resident DJs Liebchen and Vlad; vending by ChainChix; super drink specials; and much more, all for just the usual $5.00 cover...
RED THIS EVER LIVE
Always voted one of your favorite bands in Midnight's annual surveys, Baltimore-based Red This Ever (www.redthisever. net) will be performing live for us again on Saturday. We're proud to be one of the first stops on a nationwide tour that will include RTE performances in the Carolinas, Florida, NOLA, Las Vegas, California, Denver, and the Midwest in support of their just-released 12-song album "Selfless." This "New Wave, Synth-Rocker" group always puts on an amazing show, making this an edition of Midnight you definitely won't want to miss!
IN THE DJ BOOTH
Most of the evening will, as usual, be devoted to music from our DJs, right up until we reluctantly pull the plug at 2:45 a.m. And you'll love the team we've put together for the 30th--Midnight residents Liebchen, who's also a member of XUBERX apearing live @ BOUND June 26th (www.myspace. com/xuberxnoise) , and Vlad, part of the crew that brings you great bands at Exposure (www.exposure- dc.com), plus DJ/VJ Umbris.
Well known in the D.C./Baltimore scene as an interactive visual artist, Umbris has spun and/or VJed at Bound, Elektroschock, Exposure, Glow Factor, Rapture, Alchemy, Chronos, and more, as well as at shows for bands such as Caustic, Haujobb, Razed in Black, Shiny Toy Guns, etc. We're eagerly looking forward to his first working appearance at The Meeting Place.
VISIT OUR VENDORS
Over in the regular vendors corner you'll find Brittany and her gang from ChainChix, which specializes in handcrafted chainmaile jewelry. They're always happy to do custom work, btw, so if you see something you'd like done slightly differently, be sure to ask. Red This Ever will, of course, also be running a merch table, featuring copies of their new disc "Selfless" and other band items. Bring a few extra bucks and visit both their displays.
DRINK SPECIALS
Between rounds of dancing to the band and our DJs, stop by the bar and check out this week's drink specials. To help get the party started, The Meeting Place always sells two-for-one beverages between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Later, from 11:00 to last call, you can order one of the following at a great price (+ tax): Miller Lights and Bud Lights, $3.00; all Coronas, $4.00; Blue Hawaiians and Long Island ice teas, $5.00. TMP's specialty concoction, the "black death shooter," is available, too, for $2.00. (We encourage you, as always, to drink responsibly or refrain from getting behind the wheel.)
OF COURSE THERE'S MORE...
* WELCOME HOME -- Be sure to let Renon, a former Midnight regular who's been living in Massachusetts, know how pleased you are to see him back at the club on Saturday!
* ENTER THE DRAWING -- When you arrive, fill out one of the slips on our literature table and place it in the nearby cauldron. You could go home with a copy of a CD from Life in Sodom, Cassandra Syndrome, Kubrick, or Angels on Acid. Special thanks to Radio-Active- Music.com for donating the discs from Kubrick (www.myspace. com/kubrickband) .
* FREE CAKE -- After the band there'll be free cake served in honor of this week's b'day celebrants. We're still seeking some confirmations; but come or no, best wishes to Stefanie, Angel, Blake, Cristal, Nancy, Brit, Adrienne (we miss you!), Irene, and Veronica. Carsia, who's turning 21 this week, will definitely be on hand, and be sure to wish her a "happy"!
* DOOR DEALS -- Most places would use a band's appearance as an excuse to squeeze you for some extra cash, but not Midnight. The cover's going to be $5.00 again on Saturday; and the first dozen people in line when we open get in absolutely free, as always. So will the winner of our "Question of the Week" contest (look for this week's "Question" on our LJ, www.livejournal. com/community/ dcmidnight, sometime on Thursday evening). And if you can show our cash table staff a current high school or college (includes faculty, staff) ID you get in for only $3.00. Don't forget, Midnight is--and has been since it opened in 2002--an 18+ event, unlike many D.C. parties.</lj-cut>
