If you haven't made it out to Midnight lately you've
missed some
damned good parties, and this Saturday's will
definitely be another...
IN THE DJ BOOTH
The music this week comes courtesy of three DJs who're
request
friendly and always rate well with the Midnight crowd:
* DuJour is one of the residents at the Monday night
'80s Party at
The Blue Iguana in Fairfax. One of new generation of
scene DJs we
helped to train and debut, she's also guested at The
Dawning in
Charlottesville and Bound. You can get an advance
taste of DuJour's
musical preferences by checking out her Internet radio
station
(www.live365. com/stations/ djdujour) .
* Panic is a D.C. goth scene veteran, and he's run or
spun at just
about every serious local event in years. Currently a
resident DJ at
Bound, he's also the man behind Midian's various
incarnations
(see "Upcoming Events" below for news on the latest
one). Panic has
also done guest spots all over, most recently for
clubs in New
England and upstate N.Y.
* Solaries is a DJ name that's almost legendary in the
Baltimore/D. C.
gothic scene. A past resident for us, Alchemy,
Ambrosia, Midian,
etc., she's also made guest appearances at far-flung
events such as
the Philly mega-party Nocturne and Convergence in San
Diego. Equally
at home spinning '80s classics and the newest material
you'll find at
Strangeland Records, she--and her two fellow guest DJs
this week--
will definitely get you out onto the dance floor!
CD RELEASE PARTY FOR "A MURDEROUS MIX"
We're also hosting a CD release party, courtesy of the
group SMP,
for "A Murderous Mix," an interesting compilation that
will probably
appeal to those of you who favor more aggressive and
industrial
music. Featuring several selections from SMP's
forthcoming disc "The
Treatment," it also includes noteworthy tracks from
bands such as
Lucid Dementia, The Punk Group, and Labwrk. We'll be
playing a few
songs from it, plus giving away pics, posters, and a
couple of AMM
copies (in the drawing). For more info, check out
www.smphq.com or
www.musicration. com
ON THE VENDING FRONT
The Silver Phoenix (www.silverphoenix. chaosmagic.
com) will be vending
again on the 28th, and that means you can expect
another spectacular
display of handmade jewelry, plus massage oils,
perfumes, and much
more. It's great stuff at very reasonable prices, so
be sure to stop
by their tables at some point during the evening.
In addition, DJ Solaries will have tickets for the
sure-to-sell- out
18+ show at The Depot in Baltimore on Friday, July 20.
Who's
playing? The lineup includes Red This Ever, High Blue
Star, and, in
a rare U.S. appearance, Attrition, plus three DJs.
It's early, but
if you're at all interested in attending this event it
would
definitely be wise to buy in advance! (See "Upcoming
Events" for
more details.)
DRAWING, B'DAYS, & OTHER GOODIES
Okay, sounds neat, we can imagine some of you
thinking--but will
there be free stuff?! Is the Pope Catholic? Does the
bear defecate
among the trees? This is Midnight, after all...
Fill out one of the drawing slips on our literature
table when you
arrive, drop it into the nearby cauldron, and you'll
be eligible to
win one of this week's prizes. We've got CDs from
Qntal and
Cassandra Syndrome (myspace.com/ cassandrasyndrom
e--performing live at
Midnight on May 5!), as well as "A Murderous Mix" (see
above) and a
copy of the latest issue of GOTHIC BEAUTY (which
includes a Midnight
ad with the always fabulous Sasha as the model).
Thanks as always to
our friends at Strangeland Records (www.strangelandrec
ords.com) for
their contribution.
Last week DJ Panic kindly contributed some promotional
stuff for the
new film "The Condemned" to us. While the movie passes
were quickly
snapped up, a couple of the T-shirts got overlooked.
If you'd like
one of those, just ask Scott.
Since the federal government, our constant friend and
protector when
it comes to evil dietary stuff and unhealthy food
additives, recently
declared that too much sugar is bad for you, we'll
only be serving
celery and carrot sticks in the future. Yeah, right.
Look for free
cake around 12:10 to help Severian, Vergil, and Susie
celebrate their
b'days. Best wishes also to Shanon, Rachel, Christine,
and Kaht, one
or more of whom may also join us.
Drop in early and you may get some extra benefits. Our
first dozen
guests each Saturday never pay any cover, there's a
tray of mixed
candy left out on a table near the entrance to the
Back Hall
(location of our secure coat and bag check), and The
Meeting Place's
top-notch bartenders serve up two-for-one drinks the
first hour we're
open. Hungry after all that dancing? Check with your
bartender for
a copy of the latest hot and cold food menu, served
until 1:00 a.m.
And don't forget that TMP always offers both bottled
water and Red
Bull.
Come down to Midnight this Saturday, and hang out with
all your old
friends and the many new faces we're attracting. It's
going to be a
wonderful night to party! Don't forget, too, that
we've scheduled a
live show on May 5 by Cassandra Syndrome...
